What is an Internet Bad Neighbour?

An internet bad neighbour is a website with low quality and/or illegal content.

A bad neighbourhood, in the context of search engine optimization (SEO ), is a group of websites with poor reputations and low search rankings that are linked to each other.

Search engines, especially Google, often lower the search result rankings of web pages deemed bad neighbours or from a bad neighbourhood, this is because they do not want bad neighbours to affect the quality of search results by appearing higher in the results than they deserve.

When you link to bad neighbors, this affects your search results rankings in a negative way.

Vice versa, when bad neighbours link to your website or web pages, you can disavow their links (backlinks) to your website.
