What is a Domain Registrar?

A Domain Registrar is a company that manages the reservation of internet domain names. A domain name registrar is an organization, usually commercial, which sells and manages the ownership records of domain names. Domain name registrars are licensed by the top-level domain registries. Domain owners set the location of their domain name servers by notifying the registrar, normally through the registrar’s website.
